We catch up with one of KP Collectives runway directors, Kristen Ravest, as they
hold their inaugural fashion runway casting day for their October show at the French
restaurant Pompette at The Star Casino Brisbane.

This is not your first time hosting a casting event, but its your first one out on your
own with KP Collective Runway.
Yes, and were so excited to launch our own runway events. We currently have three
shows coming up, with our first in October this year.

Can you elaborate a bit on what were going to see with KP?

KP Collective is all about supporting local designers and models, and our first show
is on October 16th.
Our first show will have two parts.
The first part will be clothing: womens wear and mens wear.
And then the second half will be some lingerie and sleepwear as well.

Sleepwear is certainly a little underrated on the runway, so it will be refreshing to see
new designers showcasing it.

How will KP Collective be different from your others?

Its just going to be much more uplifting.
We are trying to give our audience and models a new experience at a KP event, with
a creative setup and an elevated runway, providing the models with a more inviting
place to walk.

Can you tell us a bit about the casting process?

We had an overwhelming response to our first casting, with models submitting their
comp cards to us online. From there, we narrowed it down to our top fifteen, and
those models are here today to see if they make the top ten.
And Im really happy to say that weve got a lot of new faces.

Were all about representing new faces and new talent throughout Brisbane and
Queensland; we went through a selection process to get here today.

As part of KP, your daughter is also involved. How exciting is it to have your daughter
involved in your events?

Fantastic, because she is very creative and very good at social media, and I think its
really bringing that younger flavour to the shows, which is different from the other
shows Ive done.

A trend Ive seen with the other shows you were involved in.
Its bringing new talent to the runway and also new designers, because I think, being
a small city, weve seen the same designers repeat, which gets a bit boring and dull
for the show.

With this show, we have new designers coming from Western Australia and South
Australia.
Thats a pretty good catch for one of your first shows on your own.

How long did you decide before you started to come out on your own?

I guess it was a quick, easy decision because I have done quite a few runways with
other entities, but it was just like, no, we need to keep doing this. This is what I love,
and this is our passion, and to do something with my daughter as well. Now that
shes 18, you know, it just gives us something for the future.
This restaurant here, at the casino, Pompette, what a beautiful little location you
secured for your casting.

Yes, I was so thankful to Pompette restaurant for providing this space for us today to
hold our casting. They,ve been really wonderful and accommodating, and they have
invited us to do a runway for them later in the year.

Paris Interview

Paris, Kristens daughter, who makes up the mother-
daughter duo of KP Collective Runway.

Paris, from model to KP director, a shift in your world of modelling.
Yes, Mum and I together make up Kp Collective Runway, and after the past couple of
years, I think that we definitely deserve this.

With my modelling experience and mum in the audience, we both have a few things
we would like to add to our runway events.

Can you tell us a bit about today?
I love today.
We have a bunch of new people that, like, we put out the call for our online casting
and we found a whole new group of male and female models

I feel its really going to make a good image for us, like a new brand, new models
and new designers, and I feel its going to be a great outcome.

And what can patrons look forward to at the show in October?

We have at least 13 designers; I think half of them are all new, so people will see
and feel new collections and new ranges. We have good energy from everyone, and
it is continuing to grow.

It will be a really big night, and its going to be the spill of new
things; it will be a surprise for all.
